This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written: "Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way. He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord's coming! Clear the road for him.!"
Over 2000 years ago, it was John the Baptist that prepared the way for the coming of Christ. Today it is the Spirit of God. The Bible says that no one can know the things of God, unless the Spirit of God reveals it to him. At times I think we err when we try to make Christianity an act of reason. It is so much more than that. If we make it a mere act of the mind, then we miss out on much of what God has to teach us. It is a supernatural interaction between our human spirit and the Spirit of God. This season of Advent, let us pray that we would allow the Spirit of God to prepare our hearts for the coming of our Savior. May we let down our walls, and allow the power of God to reveal all that our Savior is to us. Let us clear our hearts of human concerns, so that we may listen to the urging of the Spirit. Listen to what he has to teach us about the Christ that we have been longing for. We try in vain to gain favor with a Holy God. We should allow the Spirit of God to reveal the futility of that. May we open our hearts to the inner workings of God in our hearts. The beauty of Advent is that it gives us the time we need to reflect on Jesus. If we keep to a holiday of a mere day, then we miss the opportunity to prepare our hearts for the beauty of Christmas. It is an amazing thing to think of the Supreme God, veiled in humanity, and born in a stable in the little town of Bethlehem. Holy Spirit prepare the way for the Coming Christ in our hearts this season of Advent.
