Advent Day #6 - Deuteronomy 18:15-19

Moses continued, "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites.  You must listen to him.  For this is what you yourselves requested of the Lord your God when you were assembled at Mount Sinai.  You said, "Don't let us hear the voice for the Lord our God anymore or see his blazing fire, or we will die."  The the Lord said to me, "What they have said is right.  I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites.  I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him.  I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf."

God promised to raise up a prophet from among the Israelites.  He has done just that, but he has not raised a prophet, but THE prophet.  He has not put his words into his mouth, but he is THE WORD.  It is really easy at Christmas time to get so wrapped up in the holiday that you forget the real reason we are celebrating.  God Almighty has descended as a man, in order to bring us into right relationship with him.  He didn't have to do that.  He did it because of the immense love that he has for us.  He looked down on a lost and dying world, and was moved with compassion for his creation.  He wishes to bring all of us back in right relationship with him.  He has sent THE prophet in Jesus Christ to show us that he is THE WAY.  When you think about the who of Christmas, then you can do nothing but to fall before the manger.  In that simple crude manager lied the ruler of the universe.  The same God who brought the Jews out of Egypt and split the Red sea is the same little baby that lied in the manger.  It is an amazing thing to picture.  How humble, and how loving.  We are blessed beyond anything we could ever imagine.
